tudio Umbilical is a small-scale publishing house specializing in graphic fiction, education and artist's books. Founded by Luke Haokip and Amruta Patil, Studio Umbilical is currently involved in creating effective communication for print and web. Studio Umbilical is committed to work marked by purpose, style and simplicity.

Luke and Amruta also edit and publish Mindfields - a quarterly journal on ideas and learning. 

Luke has over ten years experience in publishing, design and project management. He read English at St. Stephen's College, Delhi University and was part of Outlook magazine's launch team in 1995.

Amruta is a writer and illustrator with an MFA from School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her graphic novel, Kari, was published in English by HarperCollins-India  (January 2008) and in French by Au Diable Vauvert (November 2008). She is currently working on her second novel 1999 and Parva/The Epic, a graphic novel based on the Mahabharata.
